Network Intrusion Protection

SPARTA ISSO identifies and develops new techniques and architectures for coordinated intrusion prevention - including detection, correlation, alerting, response, isolation, recovery, and management - to protect both wired and wireless systems from network-based intrusions.

In addition to developing techniques that simplify and facilitate security management, we also develop technology to analyze, interpret, filter, and shape network traffic - including application-specific protocols - to improve network security and manageability.

SPARTA ISSO develops architectures that allow prevention components to rapidly coordinate defensive actions on hosts, gateways, network monitors, management components, and specialized security devices.

SPARTA ISSO examines defense against distributed denial-of-service attacks using statistical-based techniques to detect and characterize attacks, and focused rate-limiting and packet-filtering to respond to attacks.

We investigate network attack source identification, including traceback through non-cooperative networks.

SPARTA ISSO also researches and develops new intrusion detection architectures and techniques for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs).
